Overview:

An Accessibility Champion is someone who spearheads the drive to maintain and improve accessibility in your organisation in addition to their line responsibilities. This key individual keeps up to date with the latest developments in accessibility, networks with local organisations and community groups to make them aware of your accessible offering and trains other staff in accessibility awareness.
Having undertaken our Accessibility Champion courses, our programmes equip attendees with all the additional skills and resources they need to fulfil this key role.

Our professionally designed training programmes include:

  • An understanding of accessibility and the value of the ‘purple pound’
  • An insight into the visitor experience of disabled people
  • The Equality Act and its implications for your business
  • The ‘Three Pillars of Accessibility’: information, facilities and services
  • Understanding access needs relevant to your provision for people with: hearing loss, sight loss, mobility impairment, autism and dementia
  • Website accessibility
  • Information on Changing Places toilets
  • Best practice guidelines
  • Visit England Accessibility Guides
  • Marketing your accessibility

Bronze Accessibility Champion Training
This is delivered as a full day, in person (10-12 pm and 1-4 pm) or online as two half-day modules. There will be interactive tasks and we will cover the barriers and solutions of a variety of access needs and a chance to discuss how this is relevant to your business. The in-person version has a limit of 30 attendees and the online has a maximum of 20 attendees.

Silver Accessibility Champion Training
This is delivered as a 5-week course. There would be a two-hour session each week covering different aspects of accessibility barriers and solutions. The attendees would be given useful materials including the access tracker for each stage of the customer journey and from a pan disability approach. AccessibleUK provide support and guidance throughout the five-week period. This would have a maximum of 15 attendees, as there is a great deal of interaction during the course. By the end of the course, the Accessibility Champions would have an in-depth knowledge of the accessibility of their own environments and have completed a DIY audit report.

Gold Accessibility Champion Training
This is delivered as a two-day programme with one- day classroom- based, followed by an on-site interactive ‘Accessible Treasure Hunt’ day at a local attraction. This could be delivered in Derbyshire (using our office) or at a location of your choice. This is aimed at individuals at different organisations and is usually charged per person.

If these courses are delivered at your business or your venue of choice, then you would need to cover venue hire, refreshments and trainers’ expenses (e.g., mileage, subsidiary and accommodation*) *where relevant.

Disability Awareness Training
We can also offer shorter disability awareness training courses (minimum 2 hours) to meet your time and budget constraints. These can be delivered online via Zoom or in person (location depending and covering the trainers’ expenses). These programmes can be focused on specific access needs/disabilities or subjects relating to accessibility e.g., Changing Places Toilets.
